Hitoshi Okamoto
Hitoshi Okamoto received his M. D. from the University of Tokyo in 1983 and
his Ph. D. in molecular genetics, also from the University of Tokyo, in 1988.
He served as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor from
1988 to 1991, before returning to Japan as an assistant professor at the National
Institute for Basic Biology in Okazaki. He moved to the Keio University Department
of Physiology in 1993 as lecturer and associate professor, and then to the RIKEN
Brain Science Institute in 1997, as head of the Laboratory for Developmental Gene
Regulation. Since 2004 he has served as a Group Director of the Neural Growth
and Regeneration research group at the BSI..
