Barbara Hempstead
Barbara Hempstead completed her undergraduate work at Tufts Univerity. She
went to receive M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at Washington University School of Medicine
in St. Louis where she studied the biochemistry of the IgE receptor. Following
training in Internal Medicine and Hematology at Cornell Medical College, Barabra
did postdoctoral training in the lab of Dr. Moses Chao, where she was a member
of the team that identified TrkA as a NGF receptor. Barbara is currently Professor
in the Department of Medicine, and Co-Chief of the Division of Hematology and
Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Her lab utilizes both genetic
and biochemical approaches to study the roles of pro and mature neurotrophins
in regulating neuronal development, response to injury and behavior.
