Tom Misteli is currently a Senior Investigator at the National Cancer Institute, NIH, where he heads the Cell Biology of Genomes Group. After obtaining his Ph.D. from the University of London, UK, he continued his postdoctoral training at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory where he pioneered the use of imaging approaches in studying genomes and gene expression in living cells. For this and other work Dr. Misteli has received numerous awards, including the NIH Director's Merit Award, the Gian-Tondury Prize and he was elected a Fellow of the Keith R. Porter Endowment for Cell Biology. He acts as an advisor for several national and international agencies and also serves on various editorial boards including PLoS Biology and The Journal of Cell Biology. His laboratory's current interests lie in attempting to uncover the fundamental principles of spatial genome organization and to apply this knowledge to the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for cancer and aging. |
