Buzz Baum
Buzz Baum is a Professor of Cell Biology and Cancer Research UK Senior Research Fellow at University College London. Buzz Baum did his PhD with Paul Nurse on cell cycle control in fission yeast and his post- doctoral work with Norbert Perrimon on the actin cytoskeleton in cell shape and polarity in Drosophila. Since then, the Baum lab has explored the molecular, cellular and physical processes that give rise to the shape of isolated animal cells and cells in the context of an epithelium, and is interested in the morphological processes that go awry during cancer progression. More specifically, in the last few years his lab has focused their efforts on understanding the mechanisms underlying tissue refinement at the end of development in the fly pupa, and on the change in cell shape that accompanies the onset of mitosis, bringing full circle Buzz Baum's interest in the cell cycle and cell shape.
