Ashley W. Seifert
Ashley Seifert is an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Kentucky in the United States. He trained as a developmental biologist with Martin J. Cohn and received his Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Florida. He subsequently joined the laboratory of Malcolm Maden as a postdoctoral fellow to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating vertebrate organ regeneration. His more recent work has focused on understanding how salamanders can regenerate skin and how fundamental traits like body size and aging can influence regenerative ability. His recent discovery that species of African spiny mice can regenerate skin and cartilage has opened a new line of regeneration research using these mammals. His laboratory continues to focus on understanding the balance between regeneration and scarring in vertebrate skin.
