OUTLINE Welcome Message: With a lamprey sequencing project currently underway, and recent results on the development of both lamprey and hagfish, cyclostome research is poised to make major contributions to our understanding of the evolution of the vertebrate body plan. In organizing this meeting, we hope to include investigators with varied backgrounds related to the meeting theme, with the goal of raising awareness of the key position of cyclostomes in understanding the developmental evolution of vertebrates. We hope this meeting will lead to increased interaction among groups studying aspects of cyclostome biology related to body plan development and evolution. We, the organizers, are also convinced that this meeting will activate especially the basic developmental researches, by providing opportunities to compare distantly related animal developmental patterns and process with those in model organisms, leading to the evolutionary perspectives of development. Date: January 24 (Thursday) - January 25 (Friday), 2008 *The program is tentatively scheduled to start in the afternoon of January 24, 2008 Venue: RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology (CDB), Kobe, Japan Language: English |

ABOUT KOBE The city of Kobe is located in the Western part of Japan in a unique setting between the Rokko Mountains and the Inland Sea. The city's port has historically played an important role in opening Japan up to international influence and the city retains a cosmopolitan and sophisticated air to this day. In addition to a bustling Chinatown and the more relaxed historical foreign settlement, there are a number of famous hot springs to the north of the city. Japan's renowned public transport system also means that Kobe is within easy reach of the ancient capitals of Kyoto and Nara, which contain over 1,000 historical temples and shrines.
