Yoshiya Kawaguchi


Yoshiya Kawaguchi is a Professor of Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA) at Kyoto University. He graduated from Kyoto University and received his M.D. at 1988. After residency at Kyoto University Hospital and Kurashiki Central Hospital as a surgeon, he received his Ph.D. in surgery from the Kyoto University Graduate School at 1997. He moved to Vanderbilt University and involved in Professor Chris Wright lab analyzing the role of Ptf1a in pancreas development (1999-2002). After returning to Japan at 2002, Dr. Kawaguchi worked as a surgeon in the field of hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery and transplantation, and continued pancreas development research as an assistant professor and lecturer (2002-2011). At 2011, he was assigned to his current position. His current research interest is to understand how pancreatic cells are differentiated and maturated in three-dimentional structure during organogenesis.
