Host: Sipp Douglas
summary :While reviewing the legendary history and the unique culture of the New York-based Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) and introducing the new arm of CSHL in the Asia Pacific, i.e. CSH Asia, the talk will focus on the essentiality of communication skills to junior Asian scientists by stories from Jim Watson, Craig Venter, Sydney Brenner, etc. The talk will also emphasize the importance of timely integration for scientists in Japan, Korea, China and the rest of Asia in order to better competing in the ever-competitive world of science.

Brief Bio:
Dr. Maoyen Chi is the founding CEO of Cold Spring Harbor Asia (CSH Asia), a subsidiary of the New York-based Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL). He designs and implements CSH Asia' annual scientific program by closely following the latest development of scientific research around the world and extensively interacting with the Asian scientific communities.
He received his B.S. in Biochemistry from the Washington State University and obtained simultaneously his Ph.D. in Microbiology/immunology and B.S. in Computer science from The Ohio State University. Subsequently he worked at the CSHL first as a computational biology postdoctoral trainee with Professor Michael Wigler and was quickly promoted as a scientific informatic analyst, responsible for large-scale genomic microarray data analysis as well as the data management in the group.
