Speake Profile Dr. Gonzalez had been heading a group at EMBL for a long time and moved to Barcelona in 2004. He has been studying assembly of mitotic spindles and also cancer formation. In 2005, he discovered that tumors are formed by elimination of "the basal determinants" such as Prospero, which segregate to one daughter during Drosophila neuroblast divisions, This work triggered publication of plenty of work on tumor formation in the Drosophila larval brain as well as in other species.
