Brief Bio | Dr. Shosei Yoshida graduated the University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine in 1991. He completed his graduate training at the Institute of Medical Sciences, the University of Tokyo and received his Ph.D. in 1995, for his study on the mechanism of skeletal muscle differentiation. After another two years of work in the same research field as a postdoctoral fellow, he initiated to investigate the nature and functionality of the mouse spermatogenic stem cells as an assistant professor at Osaka University and then at Kyoto University. Since 2008, he has been appointed as a professor for Division of Germ Cell Biology, National Institute for Basic Biology, Okazaki, Japan, to extend his work on spermatogenesis. His lab is interested in the cellular identity, localization, movement, self-renewal and differentiation of the mouse spermatogenic stem cells. His lab also investigates the molecular and cellular nature of their stem cell niche. For these purposes, his group has been taking advantages of the intravital live-imaging, lineage-tracing technologies, and mathematical analysis. His ultimate goal is to fully understand, with many colleagues, how the continual production of numerous sperms is supported for a long period, and how the quality of sperm genome is controlled in term of their fidelity. |
